{Just One Drop} Photo Philanthropy Trip to East Africa

It’s that time of year again…planning has begun for our annual Photo-Philanthropy trip!

As you know, photography is a passion of mine and I am constantly looking for avenues to use my photography to make a difference in the lives of people. Every year in our off-season we find a Non-Profit looking for photographers to create compelling imagery to tell their story which aids in fund-raising and education for their cause.

This year we have chosen Thirst Relief International’s projects in Eastern Africa, an amazing organization providing clean water solutions for those in desperate need. We are honored to donate our photography services to their efforts to bring critical assistance.

But we need to get there… and that is where you come in…

There are two ways you can help.

1.     Donate Here (any amount is graciously accepted)

2 . Spread the Word – that is how goodness is shared! Inspire someone else to make a difference as well. Tweet / FB…whatever social media makes you smile!

I am equally thrilled because my whole family will join us and my children will continue be exposed at a young age to the beautiful culture of giving back.

IT’S ALL ABOUT WATER

Nearly 1 Billion people today, STILL lack access to safe, clean drinking water and more than 2 Billion lack access to adequate sanitation. With nearly 1 million children dying each year due to water related illnesses, that are preventable, water is the most vital component to not only survival, but also to the development of a community.

Water

A lack of safe, clean drinking water is still the largest crisis facing people around our world today. Water is the foundational building block, and first step, for any community in the developing world to begin moving toward self sufficiency and stablity.

Health

A child dies every 21 seconds from water-related disease. These deaths aren’t simply caused by contaminated water, but also by a lack of access to proper sanitation and hygiene. Thirst Relief not only provides people with clean water, but also the knowledge of and access to proper sanitation that will be passed down throughout generations.

Education

443 million school days are lost each year due to water related illness. Hours are also spent each day retrieving water, which results in no time to pursue education. Clean water solutions allow children to focus on education and their future rather than water gathering.

Community

In one day women around the world spend 200 million hours collecting water. By providing a community with access to clean water, you are freeing up valuable time that members of that community can use to work, go to school, and perpetuate sustainable life. On average, every $1 invested in water and sanitation provides an economic return in that community of $8.

{Autumn} Natural Lifestyle Family Portraits | Napa Valley

I love that when I finish a photo shoot like this it feels less like work and more like a great play date with wonderful friends. For years to come this family will get to treasure the sweet fall morning where we were surrounded by Autumn. 1  3 4 5

{Fall Portraits} Marin Headlands | Lifestyle Family Portraiture

On a gorgeous, yet blustery day, the Hayes Family enjoyed exploring the Marin Headlands. What resulted what lots of silly moments and tons of fun! It is such a joy for me to watch children grow and a privilege to document moments like these for families to remember these days.

{ Sarah + Alan} Napa Valley Wedding Weekend | Sullivan Winery | Meadwood Napa Valley

Sarah and Alan have this infectious positive energy and joy surrounding them! They wanted to create an amazing weekend for their guests and with the help of Stephanie Cole of Cole Drake Events, they went above and beyond!

Sarah had three completely different concepts she wanted to come to fruition: a Liberace inspired, blinged-out wedding, an all-white croquet post wedding brunch and a rehearsal dinner that HAD to include a mobile pizza oven.  Most importantly, she wanted everyone who attended to have fun.

Guests began the weekend at Sullivan Winery – where they were greeted by a glass of fantastic wine, Baron (Sarah and Alan’s teacup Yorkie) and the Britney Spears Pandora station blasting.  They noshed on freshly spun Artisan pizzas (straight from the mobile pizza oven) while they posed for the talented caricaturist.

There was plenty of laughter throughout these three days of events and it will be a weekend that I will never forget.  From the infectious love of Sarah & Alan and their guests to the constant harmony of laughter throughout the events, this weekend transpired exactly as it should.

The next day, or the main event, was hosted at Meadowood Napa Valley where Sarah and Alan transformed a meeting room into a spectacular draped venue – perfect for their intimate affair.  After tray passed canapés, guests enjoyed a three course dinner followed by a scrumptious late night dessert table.    At the conclusion of the event, Sarah, Alan, their mothers and Baron (in his black tuxedo) handed out individually packaged mini wedding cakes for guests to take home.

When Sarah described her “vision” of her wedding day to her planner, Stephanie Cole of Cole Drake Events, she said, “If you can make my reception look like Liberace threw up, I will be ecstatic!” Sarah and her team of vendors delivered. The result was a room overflowing with pink, gold, glitter and sparkle! 43454725 29 28 26 20 (1)

On the final day, guests strolled to the Croquet Brunch, most hiding behind large sunglasses, which was complete with Meadowood’s very own Croquet Master.  All attendees donned all-white apparel, including Baron, who dressed formally in an all-white tuxedo.

{Bridie + Brig} Calistoga Ranch Wedding

Bridie & Brig had a wonderfully intimate wedding on a gorgeous morning with their closest friends and relatives. I was touched by their kindness and sweet love throughout the day.

What sweet words of gratitude I received from this couple in a lovely hand-written note:

“We can’t thank you enough for the time we spent with you on our wedding day. Thank you for making everything so relaxed and for making the time with our photos such a lovely part of the experience. We really appreciate all that you did to make the day enjoyable and fun. It was such a pleasure at every turn and we just wanted to tell you how much your thoughtfulness meant to us.”

{Fall Portraits} Children + Family Portraits | Napa Valley

It’s my favorite time of year for family portraits. Crisp air, crunchy leaves and color! A busy season tends to call for much less blogging time but I wanted to share a few from some recent family shoots. I love those clients that let me take the time to get to know and enjoy your children. 1 2 3 4
